Very informative May 4, 2010 K. Caswell (Des Moines, WA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this book for information on what kind of tax deductions I can take with my house rentals, it is very easy to read and understand. I would, and have recommended this book to my friends.
Overpriced -- nothing really useful April 9, 2010 myprivatenicname 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overpriced; little useful information. Wordy and needlessly long. Tables and quick summaries in 20 pages or fewer would have been a much better piece of work.
I would not recommend this publication.
Very helpful, highly recommended March 26, 2010 Johnny P 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Absolutely critical in knowing how to plan for taxes. Definitely keep it on my bookshelf and will reference throughout year.
Pros:
Written in plain everyday English
Gives lots of details and advice. Has multiple in depth chapters on topics like depreciation so you can dive deep, but also does a good job breaking topics into good categories so you can skip around.
Fully prepares you to fill the schedule E form
Includes a walkthrough line by line of the form
Cons:
No worksheets to help walk through calculating deductions. The book tells you what you can deduct, you still have to do the math.
A select few small pieces of advice not in agreement with my HRBlock tax advisor (for example - HRBlock still recommends filling electronically, not via paper while the book suggested the opposite).
Highlight For Our Tax Year March 25, 2010 The Lunar Staff (Hee Haw Land, KS) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Let me start of by saying... Nolo rocks. We are new to rental properties, as an investment, and we were concerned with the tax situation this year. However, this book was definitely a blessing for us. It gave us valuable information we would never have known existed.
If you are new to rental properties, you must get this guide. It saved us a bundle in taxes and we were able to save and write off a lot of upgrades and remodeling.
Everything you wanted to know about being a landlord March 20, 2010 M (Santa Clara, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a well written, detailed, guide to navigating taxes for landlords. It is an excellent source of information for taxpayers.
